What is Clubhouse app?

Clubhouse is an invite-only audio-based social app allowing users to spontaneously join video group chats. It is the product of Alpha Exploration Co., founded by Paul Davison and Rohan Seth. The initiative defines itself as ” a new type of social network based on voice—where people around the world come together to talk, listen and learn from each other in real- time.”.

Clubhouse is a reflection of the growing interest in sound-based products with the recent rebound of the podcast. Only available on the Apple App Store for now, Clubhouse app is accepting users if they get an invitation from an existing user.

In a statement announcing a new funding round, Clubhouse said it’s working on an Android app: “From the earliest days, we’ve wanted to build Clubhouse for everyone. With this in mind, we are thrilled to begin work on our Android app soon, and to add more accessibility and localization features so that people all over the world can experience Clubhouse in a way that feels native to them.”

What is Clubhouse app for?

The Clubhouse app has two main functions: speaking and listening. If you wish, you can listen to the conversations as well as start your own conversations.

There are 3 main room starting options. You can open the conversations with the Open Room which is open to everyone, the Social Room where you can communicate only with those you follow, and the Closed Room, where no one outside can attend. If you have selected options other than Closed Room, you can show the subject title to other people with the set topic field at the top right and let them know about their participation.

It is possible to spend time on the voice-based social app without starting a conversation. If you wish, you can participate in any conversation you want. The activities of the people you follow are in front of you, but beyond that, you can also search for different clubs or groups and join them.

You can assign yourself a calendar for upcoming events, or you can enter the subject with the notification when the people you follow start talking. You remain in the listening position unless you raise your hand to become a speaker.

What is in the Clubhouse app?

As well as information-filled content that can develop ideas, there are also contents in other fields. The content is not permanent like a podcast, what you talk about is flying. Apart from that, there is everything inside, which is the basic dynamic of a social network, for people to find and interact with each other.

What makes the Clubhouse app different is that it is sound-based. The best feature is that it clears the noise in the sound and it is quite successful in this direction so far.

How to get a Clubhouse app invite?

In order to get a Clubhouse app invite, first you need to download the app. After getting your phone number in the registration, Clubhouse scans your contacts to see if there is any contact who already uses the app. Your contacts with the app are notified to invite you to the app via a push notification and if one of your contacts invites you to the app, you grant the access.

The app also allows you to join the waitlist to get an invitation which is available to everyone in the first open. Once you’re in you can navigate through the interface and reach some content.

Clubhouse announced in a blog post that it has received an investment from Andreessen Horowitz. 180 investors participated in the funding round led by former investor Andreessen Horowitz.

Before the investment, it was said that the valuation of the venture would be $ 1 billion with a new investment. For now, the investment amount and financial details remain confidential. Among the investors of the startup that has recently become a star, there are famous names such as the founders of a16z, Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, and angel investor Ashton Kutcher.

The Clubhouse secured a $10 million investment from Andreessen Horowitz and Kortschak Investments in May 2020. With this investment round, it reached a valuation of $ 100 million.

Attracting the attention of investors with 1500 members at that time, Clubhouse reached 2 million active users per week, according to the data announced recently. Despite being a closed system, the venture, which has grown rapidly, can compete with mainstream social networks when open to everyone.

In mid-January 2021, Clubhouse became the most downloaded app on the App Store in Germany. The UK also accumulated the highest number of app downloads with around 120K.
