Unity’s in-app purchase revenue grew 32% in 2022

Brainlabs-owned user acquisition company Consumer Acquisition has shared a new infographic highlighting Unity’s growth in 2022. According to the infographic, Unity’s in-app purchase (IAP) revenue across all of its games grew by 32% and total revenue grew by 30% so far this year.

The company’s player base also grew by 50% and its games are now played by 3.4 billion monthly active users. The number of developers using Unity’s engine to create games increased by 31% and the number of games they published is up 93%.

In addition, Unity has also seen a remarkable spike in its global ad revenue, which rose by 28% so far this year. In the Americas alone, its mobile ad revenue grew by over 300%.

While 94% of Unity developers choose to offer ads in their games, 26% of Unity’s gamers said that they watch at least one advertisement on a daily basis. In addition, 74% of them said they tend to watch an ad when they’re offered a retailer discount.

Meanwhile, 62% of players engaged with rewarded ads and 64% engaged with ads that included sponsored social media posts.

The infographic comes weeks after Unity announced a merger deal with Israeli app business firm IronSource.

Last month, the company announced that it laid off 4% of its team, nearly 150 employees, joining other tech giants that announced lay-offs or hiring freezes because of the economic slowdown, such as Google, Apple, Meta, Shopify, Twitter and many others.
