Twitter now shows crypto and stock prices in search results

Twitter on Wednesday introduced a new feature that will now show users cryptocurrency and stock prices directly in search results.

In order to use the new feature, you’ll need to search the symbol of a crypto or a company stock adding the dollar sign in front of it (sometimes works without ’$’’ too), or click on a ‘’cashtag’’ shared by other users on the platform.

Twitter will then take you to the search result page of that cashtag, where you’ll be able to see the current value and the price chart of the crypto or stock, and head to Robinhood’s mobile app for more information by clicking on the link below the chart. As spotted by Jane Manchun Wong, charts are sourced from Tradingview.

‘’In the coming weeks, we’ll refine the user experience and expand our coverage of symbols,’’ the company said.

Quoting the tweet, CEO Elon Musk said that it is ‘’one of many product improvements coming to financial Twitter!’’

This is not the first time Twitter is rolling out a crypto/blockchain-related feature. It added Bitcoin tipping in 2021, Ethereum tipping and the ability to set NFTs as profile pictures earlier this year, all before the social media platform was acquired by Elon Musk for $44 billion.

It also built a dedicated crypto team named ‘’Twitter Crypto’’ in November last year, but its head Tess Rinearson recently quit the company after Musk’s ‘hardcore’ work ultimatum that led many workers to do the same.
