Nintendo acquires Dynamo Pictures, renames it Nintendo Pictures

Nintendo announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Tokyo-based CG animation and motion capture studio Dynamo Pictures.

Upon closing of the acquisition, Nintendo will change the company name Dynamo Pictures to Nintendo Pictures “to focus on development of visual content utilizing Nintendo IP”.

“Nintendo has decided to acquire 100% of the outstanding shares (excluding treasury shares) of Dynamo Pictures and make it a wholly owned subsidiary to strengthen the planning and production structure of visual content in the Nintendo Group,” Nintendo said in a regulatory filing.

Having worked with Nintendo on the Pikmin Short Movies series in the past, Dynamo Pictures has also worked on several games and TV projects like Yuri! on Ice and Death Stranding.

The deal is expected to close on October 3, 2022.
