Nicki Minaj And Cardi B on Instagram’s Decision To Hide Likes

American rap star Nicki Minaj said that she would stop using Instagram as soon as it hides likes. Cardi B is also one of the other celebrities who doesn’t agree with the decision of Instagram.

Instagram, one of the world’s most popular photo and video-sharing platforms, has been testing its new feature to hide likes on the platform, for a while in some countries. In the previous days, the company announced that they would start hiding likes in the United States starting from next week.

After the announcement of the company, Nicki Minaj, the 36-year-old famous singer, said she would stop using Instagram in response to Instagram’s decision. Minaj said that this step would do great harm to independent artists and influencers who do not work with major music companies.

Instagram, tests to hide the number of likes, first began in Canada last April. Since then, the test has been expanded to six other countries, including Australia, Brazil, Ireland, Italy, Japan and New Zealand, and will be activated in some parts of the US next week. Unlike the number of likes in posts, the popular platform operating under Facebook wants to see how users react when more emphasis is placed on the content.

“We are testing this because we want your followers to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get.”

Minaj, on the other hand, is not the only singer to react to Instagram’s decision. Another American rap star, Cardi B, said on his live broadcast on IGTV that the social media giant should focus on the comment section instead of removing likes. Stating that people started crazy discussions to draw attention, the famous singer argued that the effect of the comments is more than the effect of the likes.
