3 Industries That Thrived During the Pandemic

The pandemic has caused a huge strain on companies all over the world. By being forced to close, they lost business and struggled to keep their brands afloat. Employees lost their jobs or needed to change their lives as they started to work from home.

Nowadays, it is pretty normal to join an industry that incorporates a hybrid working model. However, there are particular industries that have actually thrived during the pandemic and are now doing extremely well. Here are three examples of those industries.

The Delivery Industry

During the pandemic, it was incredibly difficult to go to the shops or even go to a grocery store. That is why many people decided to go online to try and make their purchases. Amazon profits actually increased to almost 200% during the pandemic. This was due to the fact that people were going online to get the products they needed.

Customers also used delivery services to get food sent to their homes. If you were a vulnerable person, and were unable to leave your home, having groceries sent to your home was a lifeline. This also allowed for cafes, restaurants and supermarkets to continue supplying their services to interested customers. It also helped with the supply of PPE, masks and hand gel.

It is thanks to these delivery services that online ordering, including contactless dining, and the delivery and food industries have improved over the last few years.

The Gaming Industry

As everyone had to stay at home, the gaming industry actually thrived. Remember, it was impossible to go out and seek entertainment because of social distancing regulations, so, it was a good idea to purchase games at home that could provide entertainment or even allow players to meet with friends in a virtual environment in multi-player modes.

Many players felt like video games were a great way to ease the isolation of the lockdown. For instance, Animal Crossing: New Horizons was a massive success due to the fact that it allowed players to go to a new island.  Other successful games included Fall GuysFortnite and Roblox. In 2020 alone, gaming viewers rose to over 1.2 billion people, so this just shows how popular the gaming industry was becoming.

Fitness Equipment

As people were being asked to stay at home and avoid contact with others, it made it difficult for them to go outside to get exercise. It also meant that they did not have access to gyms. With this lack of access to fitness facilities, people found it difficult to remain healthy. That’s why the fitness equipment industry has thrived!

The sale of yoga mats and fitness equipment, including Internet-connected fitness equipment, has increased. Fitness equipment that is connected to the Internet means that exercisers can actually speak with a coach and get encouragement even if they are in a completely different gym or house.

Personal trainers needed to adapt to the pandemic as they were unable to see their clients face-to-face. Over 480,000 jobs were actually lost in the fitness industry due to the pandemic. That’s why quite a few trainers moved to the Internet to host virtual sessions. They also hosted outdoor workouts. Essentially, trainers needed to remain creative to keep up with the needs of their clients.

With that said, yoga mats actually saw one of the biggest increases in purchases when it came to the pandemic. A lot of people wanted to keep healthy and make their own routines up. In fact, it got to the extent that a lot of people even tried to create their own home gyms.

Now that the pandemic has eased, there has been an increase in equipment purchases that are for outside exercise. This includes bicycles, kayaks, skis, outerwear and snowshoes.

Are you going to join one of these industries?

It is a great time to work in one of the aforementioned industries. After all, they are still growing and there are so many ways that you can be a part of them.

For instance, if you are working in the gaming industry, you may be thinking about how you can make your own game, or you may want to focus on your monetisation strategy, so you should take some time to consider what sort of job you want and where you would fit in the industry. That way, you can take on a job you can enjoy in an industry that is going to keep getting more and more innovative. So, make sure to take advantage of these industry booms!
