Instagram adds text-to-speech and voice effects to Reels

Instagram announced yesterday that it has added two new audio tools to Reels called Voice Effects and Text to Speech. These two features, which are already very popular on TikTok, are just another effort in their competition with TikTok for Instagram.

Users can now get auto-generated audio when typing text for their videos. The feature, which is necessary to help blind and low vision users understand the text, will be available inside the Text bubble on the lower left corner of the screen. Instagram offers users two voice options to select from.

“Text to speech helps you add narration without using your own voice, get creative, and add fun and humor to your Reels” Instagram says.

Voice Effect tool, on the other hand, allows creators to modify and change the audio or voiceover in their Reel by choosing from several options available. You can use the feature to change your voice to sound like an announcer, a giant, a robot, or like you inhaled some helium. Users can now reach the feature by tapping Effects under the music note while recording a reel.
