At Twitch, which was among the top 10 non-game apps for annual consumer spending for the first time in 2021, consumer spending is driven by in-app purchases that give “gifts” to creators during live streams.

On Twitch, “Bits” is a virtual product that allows viewers to financially support creators, while “subs” (monthly channel subscriptions) lets viewers access exclusive creator benefits like custom emotes.

Generated 22 million new downloads in the first quarter of 2021, Twitch’s monthly worldwide mobile active users increased by 69 percent from March 2020 to March 2021.
