Meta announced on Tuesday that it has acquired three VR-based gaming studios, Camouflaj, Armature Studio and Twisted Pixel, that will now operate as part of Oculus Studios.
The social media giant unveiled the acquisition during The Meta Connect 2022 Keynote broadcast, where it also announced its new VR headset, Meta Quest Pro.
Camouflaj, which was founded in 2011 by Ryan Payton, is mostly known for its popular video game République which can be played on Android, iOS and game consoles. It also teamed up with Marvel Entertainment, Endeavor One and Sony Interactive Entertainment for Iron Man VR , which was published for PS4 in 2020, and will come to Meta Quest 2 on November 3.
Armature Studios is a Texas-based gaming company founded in 2018. Last year, it published Resident Evil 4 for Meta Quest 2. ReCore and Where the Heart Leads are a couple of its other names.
Another Texas-based gaming firm, Twisted Pixel Games, is mostly famous for its VR adventure game Wilson’s Heart launched in 2017. It’s also the developer of Path of the Warrior which is available on Oculus Quest and Microsoft Windows.
To support its VR offerings, Meta acquired Ready at Dawn Studios and Sanzaru Games in 2020, Downpour Interactive and BigBox VR in 2021.
Last year, it also announced plans to acquire Within, the developer of popular VR work-out app Supernatural. However, FTC sued the company soon after saying that it would “tend to create a monopoly’’. Earlier this week, the government agency dropped some of the claims in the lawsuit.
