Zoom is reportedly developing an email service which it might start offering in early 2021 and the company is also considering creating a calendar app too, according to the new report from The Information.
Zoom is undoubtedly one of the most popular video conferencing apps and biggest tech winners of 2020 with millions of users around the world. With the ongoing pandemic has led many businesses to start working from home to stop the spread, Zoom has seen a massive growth in both number of users and revenue.
As of March, its daily active users (DAU) was up 378% from the previous year and the company reported in June that its revenue increased by 169% during the lockdowns.
Apple chose Zoom as the iPad app of the year and announced it became the most downloaded app on the App Store in 2020. Google also listed the Zoom app among the Best Everyday Essentials category while announcing the best Android apps of the year.

Now the company is reportedly looking to expand into new areas beyond video conferencing according to the sources close to the company told The Information.
The sources said that Zoom has already begun working on an email system and it might start testing in early 2021. According to the report, the new email system would be ‘’next generation’’ and different from the current email systems which are already used by a very wide audience.
In addition to the email system, the sources said Zoom is exploring a new calendar app too. However, it’s not clear yet if the company has started developing it.
The sources said Zoom is hoping to create a new platform where video conferencing, email and calendar tools would be in one place.
If the rumors are true, Zoom would take a very smart step as video conferencing might lose its popularity if the pandemic ends and employees go back to their offices. Providing them with different tools like an email system and a calendar app might help the company keep their attention fresh.
However, the size of its rivals particularly Google and Microsoft which both offer email, video chat and calendar tools would definitely be a challenge for Zoom.
Zoom has declined to make a comment.
