Google Shopping revamps with AI-powered personalization and deal-finding tools

Google is rolling out a major transformation to its shopping platform, enhancing it with powerful AI tools to create a more personalized and streamlined shopping experience. With over a billion users interacting with Google’s shopping services daily, this upgrade aims to redefine how consumers browse, compare, and purchase products. The revamped Google Shopping, rebuilt from the ground up, integrates Gemini AI models and features 45 billion product listings.

At the heart of the new Google Shopping experience is artificial intelligence, which now intelligently curates the most relevant products for each shopper. When searching for a product, users are greeted with an AI-generated brief that provides essential insights and tailored recommendations. Whether you’re shopping for a winter jacket or a specialized gadget, Google’s AI now offers categorized product suggestions that are fine-tuned to your needs. For instance, a search for “Men’s winter jacket for Seattle” yields not just product recommendations but also an AI brief outlining what to consider, like warmth, water resistance, and style, specifically suited for Seattle’s weather.

The enhanced experience doesn’t stop there. Shoppers can utilize dynamic filters to further refine their search results, filtering by size, availability, or location. Google’s generative AI also powers the virtual try-on and augmented reality shopping tools, letting users confidently shop for clothes and accessories. These features create a more engaging, tailored shopping journey where research is simplified and purchasing decisions are informed by cutting-edge technology.

Google Shopping now boasts a completely redesigned home page that offers users a personalized feed filled with product suggestions based on their past searches and preferences. This feed is a central feature of the new platform, delivering a “For You” stream of items, including products you’ve recently viewed, videos, and recommendations aligned with your shopping habits. This personalized feed operates similarly to social media platforms like TikTok or Instagram, where algorithm-driven content is tailored to your specific interests.

What sets this apart is the seamless shopping experience Google has created. Users can pick up where they left off, accessing their shopping history or diving into fresh recommendations. The personalized experience extends to deal hunting as well. A new dedicated “Deals” page showcases personalized discounts based on user preferences. Shoppers can explore offers specifically curated for them, making it easier to find great prices on items they want.

With this transformation, Google understands the importance of price when shopping online. In addition to AI-assisted product research, the new Google Shopping platform integrates advanced price comparison tools that track prices over time. Shoppers can explore price insights, set up alerts for price drops, and make informed decisions based on real-time pricing data. A dedicated “Deals” tab also offers a personalized deals page, helping users quickly browse for discounts on products they’re interested in. Whether you’re shopping for a specific item or simply browsing, the new tools ensure that you’re getting the best possible deal.

Shoppers can manage their personalized feed by going to the Google Shopping menu and selecting “Shopping preferences,” allowing for further customization of their shopping experience. For those who may not want the personalized recommendations, there’s an option to turn off these features at any time, providing users with full control over their shopping journey.

As with any advanced AI-driven system, there’s room for improvement. Google has marked its AI-generated briefs as experimental, encouraging users to provide feedback to refine these features. Through a three-dot menu on each brief, shoppers can contribute to the ongoing development of the AI systems by offering insights on what works and what needs adjustment.

While the experience is rolling out across mobile and desktop platforms in the U.S., not all users will see the changes immediately, as it will take a few weeks for the rollout to reach everyone. However, once fully deployed, users can access the updated shopping platform via Google’s Shopping Tab or by visiting shopping.google.com.
