Google expands Studio Bot to 170+ regions

First introduced at Google I/O 2023, Google’s developer-focused AI chatbot Studio Bot has now expanded to more than 170 countries and territories in the canary release channel of Android Studio.

By generating code for their app, assisting with inquiries, and locating relevant resources all without ever leaving Android Studio, Studio Bot can help developers develop high-quality Android apps faster. Developers can even ask for assistance with certain errors and lines of code, although Google warns that Studio Bot will only view the code that you explicitly want to give with it.

Initially only available in the United States, Studio Bot is now becoming available in much of the rest of the world, excluding the European Union and the United Kingdom.

Studio Bot is powered by “Codey,” a large language model (LLM) with a charming name that is made expressly to aid in writing code, as opposed to other LLMs that are frequently made for exchanging ideas in languages like English. While it’s now available in most countries, it is designed to be used in English.

Developers can ask any kind of inquiry they want in Studio Bot’s chat window, from general inquiries to problems they specifically require assistance with. Examples of the kinds of questions it can respond to are as follows:

• How do I add camera support to my app?
• What’s the best way to get location on Android?
• Can you remind me of the format for javadocs?
• I want to create a Room database.

Developers can ask follow-up queries like, “Can you give me the code for this in Kotlin?” or “Can you show me how to do it in Compose?” as Studio Bot retains the context of the interaction.

However, it is worth noting that Google warns developers to validate Studio Bot’s responses before using them in a production app. “Studio Bot is still an early experiment, and might sometimes provide inaccurate, misleading or false information while presenting it confidently. Studio Bot might give you working code that doesn’t produce the expected output, or provide you with code that is not optimal or incomplete. Always double-check Studio Bot’s responses and carefully test and review code for errors, bugs, and vulnerabilities before relying on it. “
