Some Clubhouse users encountered a ‘’backchannel’’ screen in the popular app which suggests that the company might be working on a direct messaging chat feature. The screen disappeared last week.
Last week, Spotify launched its Clubhouse-rival ‘’Spotify Greenroom’’ which already has a backchannel feature where users are able to send text messages to each other. Clubhouse is high-probably working on something similar.
And FWIW, @SpotifyGrnroom already has a backchannel feature, so expect @Clubhouse's to (possibly) look something like this.

Last week, Clubhouse CEO Paul Davison talked about how so many people are actively using DMs to strengthen friendships and said they should have it in the Clubhouse app.
“…. I think that there are so many people who do DM backchannels all the time, so many people who want to deepen friendships and relationships with people and do all sorts of other stuff — I think this is something that we should have,” said Clubhouse CEO in a company town hall.
Here's a comment where @pdavison mentions the need for a backchannel of sorts (where people can DM each other) for @Clubhouse during a recent town hall.
