Twitter traffic reportedly ‘tanking’ as Threads’ user count keeps rising

Twitter seems to have taken a big hit from Meta’s new microblogging app Threads, which continues to grow its user base with each passing day.

According to Matthew Prince, the Chief Executive Officer of American IT service management company Cloudflare, the Elon Musk-owned company’s website traffic is ‘’tanking’’.

While Prince didn’t mention Threads in his post as the reason for the alleged decreased in Twitter’s website traffic, the new microblogging platform arrived at a time when many Twitter users were already looking for Twitter alternatives like Mastodon and BlueSky, and also just days after Musk came under fire again due to the new limits on the number of tweets users can read a day.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced last week that Threads managed to surpass 10 million sign-ups in just seven hours of its launch. According to an online tracker, the app has now reached 100 million users as of today, becoming the fastest growing social media app ever.

Despite the lack of many fundamental features like DMs and hashtags, more and more users are joining the new platform, and the ability to sign-up to it via Instagram credentials plays an important role in it.

Meanwhile, soon after the launch of Threads, Twitter sent a letter to Meta CEO Zuckerberg and threatened to sue the company, alleging that it hired its former employees and used its trade secrets for the development of the rising app.
