Apple didn’t release a classical music app in 2022 despite its promise

Apple didn’t launch a standalone classical music app in 2022 although it promised to do so.

The company first announced the plans back in August 2021, when it acquired classical music service Primephonic for an undisclosed amount. ‘’Apple Music plans to launch a dedicated classical music app next year combining Primephonic’s classical user interface that fans have grown to love with more added features,’’ the company said at the time in a press release.

In September last year, a Twitter user named Aaron discovered mentions of the ‘’Apple Music Classical’’ in Apple’s backend code, so the app was expected to be released before the year ended.

However, while 2022 has come to an end, the iPhone-maker neither launched the app nor released a further statement about it.

After acquiring Primephonic, Apple shut down the service offering its subscribers the chance to use Apple Music for six months without paying anything. So if such a standalone music app comes out in 2023, it will be Primephonic’s replacement.
