At its annual Unite 2025 conference in San Francisco, Unity announced a series of initiatives aimed at increasing interoperability and deployment options for game developers. Among the most notable developments, Unity revealed that its new in-app purchase (IAP) software development kit (SDK) will now be available to Unreal Engine developers.
Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney appeared on stage during the event to discuss the collaboration, noting that Unreal Engine developers will soon be able to use Unity’s IAP APIs to manage cross-platform purchases, pricing logic, entitlements, and other monetization features. The move reflects growing industry efforts to support more open and flexible digital marketplaces, following recent changes in mobile platform regulations.
Sweeney highlighted that developers integrating Unity’s SDK will be able to deploy games across multiple platforms, including mobile, PC, and console, as well as within Fortnite. He also confirmed that Unity-made games will be eligible for Fortnite’s discovery system and can participate in its in-game economy.
Unity CEO Matt Bromberg outlined the company’s broader plans to streamline development and deployment. Unity 6.3, the next long-term support release, is scheduled for December 2025 and will introduce enhanced 2D and 3D rendering, optimized physics, and faster multiplayer prototyping through new templates. Additional tools, such as the Unity AI Gateway and Platform Toolkit, are designed to simplify multi-platform deployment and integrate third-party AI agents securely.
The conference also highlighted improvements to security and stability, including Unity Core Standards, which verify third-party packages, and the Unity 6 Production Verification process, aimed at raising quality benchmarks across development projects.
Unite 2025 brought together over 1,500 developers for technical sessions, networking, and hands-on workshops, reinforcing Unity’s focus on providing developers with tools that allow for greater flexibility in building, deploying, and growing games across a wide range of platforms.
