Netflix greenlights animated series based on mobile gaming giant Clash of Clans

Netflix is expanding its portfolio of video game adaptations with a new animated series based on Supercell’s hit mobile franchises Clash of Clans and Clash Royale. The series, currently in pre-production, will bring the characters and world of these globally successful strategy games to life in an original storyline.

The upcoming show centers on a hapless yet determined Barbarian who must assemble a group of outcasts to protect their village while navigating the absurd politics of constant warfare. The tone promises a blend of action and humor consistent with the games’ established style.

Fletcher Moules, known for directing previous Clash of Clans animated shorts, has been tapped as showrunner. Joining him is veteran comedy writer Ron Weiner, whose credits include 30 Rock, Silicon Valley, and Futurama. Vancouver-based ICON Creative Studio will lead the animation production.

Although Netflix has built a growing games library for mobile users through its subscription platform, Clash of Clans itself is not part of that lineup. Still, the adaptation marks another step in aligning its content strategy with gaming IP, a trend that has gained momentum following the success of other game-based series like Arcane and Castlevania.

Since their launch in 2012, Clash of Clans and Clash Royale have achieved over four billion downloads and logged more than 180 billion gameplay hours globally. Despite being mobile-first titles, their broad fanbase and strong brand recognition make them a strategic choice for adaptation.

Supercell, headquartered in Helsinki with offices worldwide, has emphasized the importance of this collaboration, citing long-standing fan demand for a Clash series. While a release date has not yet been announced, production is moving forward with support from both Supercell and Netflix’s animation division.
