Monopoly Go! breaks records as fastest mobile game to gross $3 billion

Scopely’s MONOPOLY GO! has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing $3 billion in gross revenue worldwide, according to Sensor Tower, making it the most successful mobile game launch to date.

Monopoly Go! has set a new benchmark by becoming the fastest mobile game to reach $3 billion in consumer spending, achieving this milestone in just 473 days after its global launch on April 11, 2023. This record-breaking performance outpaces other popular titles such as Genshin Impact, which took 594 days, and Monster Strike, which reached this mark in 998 days.

The game’s success is particularly notable in the United States, which leads in downloads and revenue. The U.S. accounts for 34 percent (47 million) of the estimated 137 million downloads, with France and the United Kingdom following at 6 percent and 5.5 percent, respectively. U.S. users contribute a staggering 77 percent of the total revenue, amounting to $2.32 billion, while the United Kingdom contributes 4 percent, or $120 million. Moreover, player engagement remains high, with 10 million people playing daily.

The development of MONOPOLY GO! was a seven-year journey marked by dedication and creativity. Scopely co-CEO Walter Driver highlighted the lengthy and challenging process, noting, “There’s an old saying that most overnight successes were actually a decade in the making, and for MONOPOLY GO! that’s very much true.” Co-CEO Javier Ferreira echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the resilience and discovery involved in the game’s creation.

The game’s deep engagement is evident, with more than 300 million friend invites sent, players passing “GO” over 100 billion times, landing in jail more than 15 billion times, and destroying over 50 billion landmarks. These statistics underscore the game’s ability to entertain and connect players worldwide.
