Google expands AI-Powered Ads through AI Overviews and Lens

During Google Marketing Live, Google announced that it is rolling out new ad formats within its AI-powered search tools. With AI Overviews and Google Lens now incorporating ads, businesses can engage with consumers more directly at critical moments in their purchasing journey, the company said.

The introduction of ads into AI Overviews marks a notable change in how consumers receive search results. Instead of manually filtering through multiple sources, users can now find relevant ads embedded directly within AI-generated responses to their queries. For instance, someone searching for ways to remove grass stains from jeans might see a range of product suggestions, including both household solutions and branded stain removers.

The rollout of AI Overview Ads is now live for mobile users in the United States. According to Google, this integration enhances the consumer experience by presenting ads that are both timely and helpful, further driving user satisfaction.

In addition to AI Overviews, Google Lens has also seen the introduction of Shopping ads, capitalizing on its growing popularity as a visual search tool. Google Lens is increasingly becoming a preferred method for people to search by snapping pictures of products they encounter in daily life. Whether it’s a stylish backpack spotted in a store window or a pair of sneakers on a friend’s feet, users can simply take a photo and instantly receive information about the product, including where to buy it and potential alternatives. Advertisers are now able to place Shopping ads within these visual searches, tapping into a high-intent audience at the precise moment of interest.

The Lens Shopping ad feature is set to expand by the end of the year, allowing advertisers to connect with consumers who are already actively seeking products. By utilizing Google’s Shopping Graph, which contains detailed data on over 45 billion products, advertisers can ensure their listings are presented to users searching for visually similar or identical items, Google says.

Advertisers interested in leveraging these new AI-powered ad opportunities can do so effortlessly through their existing campaigns. Both Search and Shopping ads can be integrated into AI Overviews and Lens without any additional action, making it a simple and effective way to expand ad reach in the changing landscape of search behavior.
