Snap Inc. is preparing to integrate Perplexity’s AI answer engine directly into Snapchat, marking the first large-scale partnership in which an external conversational AI system will be built into the app’s core chat experience. The feature is scheduled to roll out globally beginning in early 2026.
The integration will allow Snapchat users to ask questions and receive conversational responses sourced from verifiable information—without leaving the app’s chat interface. Perplexity will be accessible alongside existing chat tools, including Snap’s built-in My AI assistant.
As part of the agreement, Perplexity will pay Snap $400 million over one year in a mix of cash and equity, tied to the global rollout timeline. Snap expects the revenue impact from the deal to begin in 2026.
The partnership comes as Snap positions itself as a distribution platform for third-party AI providers, leveraging its global audience base. Snapchat reported 943 million monthly active users, with a particularly strong footprint among users aged 13 to 34 across more than two dozen countries. Snap says this makes the platform a key entry point for AI products seeking younger, mobile-first audiences.
The move also signals an evolution in how consumer platforms present AI search and discovery. Rather than directing users to external search engines or apps, Perplexity’s answer engine will operate within the messaging interface users already use to communicate with friends. This reduces friction for casual information retrieval and expands AI-driven discovery into everyday social conversations.
Snap’s My AI chatbot will remain available, with Perplexity serving as a distinct tool focused on real-time informational queries. According to Snap, user prompts sent to Perplexity will also contribute to personalization features within the app, similar to existing AI-driven interactions.
Snap said it plans to explore additional AI partnerships as it develops Snapchat into a hub for external AI services aimed at social contexts, mobile use, and real-time interaction.
