iOS 26 beta 6 brings faster app launches and more

Apple has rolled out the sixth developer beta of iOS 26, introducing a blend of subtle design refinements, usability tweaks, and a few surprises as the software edges closer to its expected September public release. While the changes may be less dramatic at this stage of testing, Beta 6 still delivers notable enhancements that will likely please iPhone enthusiasts.

One of the most immediately noticeable improvements in iOS 26 Beta 6 is the significantly faster animation when opening apps. The acceleration doesn’t necessarily mean apps themselves load more quickly—performance still depends on factors such as recent usage—but the reduced transition time makes the iPhone feel more responsive. The new animation also incorporates a subtle bounce effect, creating a smoother and more modern feel that complements the systemwide Liquid Glass redesign.

Apple has added a new selection of ringtones, expanding the popular “Reflection” theme with variants like Buoyant, Dreamer, Tech, Pop, Reflected, and Surge. A fresh “Little Bird” tone also joins the lineup. Early testers have been especially vocal about “Dreamer,” which has already gained a following online for its catchy and upbeat sound.

Following user backlash over a change to the Camera app’s mode-switching gesture in earlier betas, Apple has restored the original swipe direction in Beta 6. The temporary “Classic Mode” toggle introduced in Beta 5 has been removed, making the familiar interaction the default once again.

Apple’s new Liquid Glass interface continues to evolve in this release. Lock Screen elements, including the clock and passcode buttons, now feature increased transparency while retaining a frosted glass aesthetic. Toggles respond with a Liquid Glass effect when tapped, and navigation bars throughout the system have been fine-tuned for better readability, balancing translucency with clarity. In the Music app and other areas, Apple has adjusted background opacity to ensure text remains legible even against busy visuals.

Other refinements include faster transitions across the system and redesigned app-opening animations. Users updating to Beta 6 will also encounter a new onboarding experience, complete with an introductory video highlighting iOS 26’s key features, including its darker and clearer icon styles. The Preview app has been refreshed with larger buttons for document creation and scanning, with controls relocated to the bottom of the screen for improved accessibility.
