Google launches Checks to help mobile app developers identify compliance and privacy issues

Google has launched a new privacy platform, called Checks, to let Android and iOS developers of all sizes identify potential compliance and privacy issues.

The new platform, which is part of Google’s in-house incubator Area 120, provides increased visibility into app’s data collection and sharing behaviors, and highlights where there may be potential compliance issues under regulations like GDPR and CCPA. 

The platform also helps mobile app developers who use SDKs by detecting when their app’s data sharing practices have changed and then sending them an automated alert. If the change was not intended, the developer can further investigate where the new data is being shared and make necessary changes.

Developers can also use Checks to get prepared for Google Play’s Data safety section by identifying what information they may need to declare and the basis for the recommendation.

Google says developers can log in with their Google account and let Google know which app they’d like to monitor. There are no integrations or technical requirements for setup.
