Google is expanding the scope of its Discover feed in the Google app, introducing new content sources and personalization features aimed at making it easier for users to keep up with both publishers and creators across the web.
In the coming weeks, Discover will begin showing more than traditional articles. Users will see content from social platforms including Instagram, X, and YouTube Shorts, with Google noting that support for additional platforms is planned. These posts will appear alongside articles, videos, and other web content.
The change follows testing that began earlier this year and reflects user feedback that a mix of content types—social posts, short-form video, and articles—improves the experience. Discover already tailors feeds using browsing activity and AI-generated summaries, but this marks a shift toward a broader media integration strategy.
Google is also rolling out the ability to follow specific publishers and creators directly from Discover. A new “Follow” button appears within the feed, letting users subscribe to updates from their preferred sources.
When tapping on a publisher or creator’s name, users will see a dedicated feed of that source’s material, including articles, YouTube videos, and social media posts. This preview function allows people to review a creator’s output before deciding to follow. Signing in with a Google account is required to use the feature.
The update builds on Google Search’s recent option to choose preferred news sources in Top Stories, further aligning personalization across its content surfaces.
Until now, Discover personalization was limited to signals such as “See less content like this” or “Not interested in [topic].” The new follow system gives users more direct control over what appears in their feed, moving beyond algorithm-only recommendations.
According to Google, Discover is intended to serve as a central hub for exploring interests, news, and creators. By combining social updates with news articles and offering tools to shape the feed, the company is positioning Discover as a more comprehensive and customizable starting point for browsing the web.
The updates begin rolling out this month and will continue over the coming weeks.
