Apple has announced a new compliance requirement for app developers in the Republic of Korea using Sign in with Apple for account creation and management. Starting January 1, 2026, developers must provide a server-to-server notification endpoint when registering or updating a Services ID linked to apps that use Apple’s authentication system.
The new rule will ensure that developers receive automatic updates regarding users’ account changes, including modifications to email forwarding preferences, account deletions within apps, and permanent Apple ID removals. These notifications are designed to help apps reflect user data changes immediately and comply with evolving privacy regulations.
Apple emphasized that developers should process these updates promptly to maintain data accuracy and user control. For example, if a user disables email forwarding or changes their Apple ID address, the app must adjust its stored data and linked systems accordingly. Developers are also required to notify users about any potential impacts on services such as billing or order tracking that depend on their Apple ID information.
The company referred developers to its technical documentation — including the WWDC20 session “Get the most out of Sign in with Apple” and Technical Note TN3194 — for implementation details and best practices.
The update aligns with Apple’s broader efforts to enhance privacy transparency and ensure compliance with local legal standards, particularly as South Korea continues to tighten consumer data protection laws across digital platforms.
Apps submitted or updated after the January 2026 deadline must meet these new requirements before being approved for distribution on the App Store.
