The European Union’s mobile gaming landscape is set for a shake-up with the launch of Skich Store, a new third-party app marketplace designed specifically for gamers. With Apple allowing sideloading in the EU under the Digital Markets Act (DMA), Skich joins a growing list of alternative app stores like AltStore Pal, SetApp Mobile, and Mobivention. While the store is now available for iOS users via its official website, its most notable feature—actual games—is yet to arrive.
Unlike conventional app stores, Skich aims to redefine game discovery with a recommendation engine built on 240 distinct genres, significantly surpassing Apple’s App Store classification system. Borrowing elements from dating apps, Skich allows users to swipe right on intriguing games or left to skip them. The platform also incorporates social features, enabling users to explore lists of trending games and see recommendations from friends.
Despite its promise of a highly personalized gaming experience, Skich launched without any available titles. This contrasts with Aptoide, another gaming-focused marketplace that debuted with at least eight basic games. However, Skich CEO Sergey Budkovski assures that the platform has already received interest from around 20 developers, and games will begin appearing later in March.
To attract developers, Skich is offering a competitive fee structure. It takes a 15 percent commission on game purchases and in-app transactions, which is lower than Apple’s 20 percent fee for EU developers. Additionally, Skich doesn’t just serve as a standalone marketplace—it continues to function as a discovery platform by directing users to games available on Apple’s App Store, giving developers additional exposure.
An Android version of the Skich Store is currently in development, potentially expanding its reach beyond iOS. However, its true impact remains to be seen until its game catalog starts filling up. For now, Skich represents an ambitious new player in the EU’s evolving mobile app market, promising a more tailored and engaging experience for gamers.
