Adobe has released a mobile version of its Firefly platform for iOS and Android, marking its first standalone generative AI app for smartphones. The new app integrates Adobe’s proprietary AI models with those from a growing network of third-party partners, including OpenAI, Google, Ideogram, Luma AI, Pika, Runway, and Flux.
Initially available only via the web, Firefly is now accessible on mobile devices, allowing users to generate images and videos from text prompts, apply generative editing tools like Generative Fill and Generative Expand, and remix existing visual content—all optimized for mobile workflows. The app also syncs with Adobe Creative Cloud, enabling seamless transitions between mobile, web, and desktop platforms for ongoing projects.
The mobile rollout comes as demand grows for generative AI tools that cater to social media trends and real-time content creation. Adobe’s new mobile Firefly app meets this need by offering intuitive tools for creators to quickly develop shareable visual media on the go.
The Firefly app also includes access to a range of non-Adobe AI models, such as Google’s Imagen and Veo video generators, OpenAI’s image tool, and Flux’s Kontext model. These third-party integrations expand the app’s creative capabilities and support cross-platform experimentation. Users can choose between Adobe’s own models and partner tools based on their creative requirements.
Adobe’s collaborative platform, Firefly Boards (formerly Adobe Canvas), also received a notable update. Now in public beta, it adds video generation features powered by Adobe and third-party models, including Luma AI’s Ray 2 and Pika’s text-to-video engine. Firefly Boards functions as a digital whiteboard, enabling teams to co-create and manipulate visual media within shared virtual workspaces.
While Adobe has not disclosed financial terms of its agreements with model providers, the company stated that access to certain premium models within the Firefly mobile app will be available through a tiered subscription. Users can subscribe starting at $10 per month, the same as the web version, and receive monthly generative credits depending on their plan.
Adobe emphasized that its in-house AI models are trained exclusively on legally obtained or licensed content. The company continues to offer copyright indemnification for commercial users—part of its effort to differentiate itself in the increasingly crowded generative AI market.
The introduction of Firefly to mobile is part of Adobe’s broader strategy to extend its generative AI capabilities beyond desktop professionals and into the hands of everyday content creators, many of whom are increasingly producing and publishing directly from their smartphones. To date, Adobe reports over 24 billion media assets have been generated using Firefly since launch.
