UPDATED – Twitter makes Spaces available for everyone in April

Twitter said that it plans to roll out Spaces for everyone starting in April.

In its latest app update released yesterday, Twitter mentioned its introducing Spaces to let users tweet and talk. However, when users updated the app, they couldn’t find the new capability. Twitter plans to make Spaces available for everyone in April to let anyone host a Twitter Space, The Verge reported.

For now, users can join and talk on existing Spaces across both iOS and Android devices.

Twitter is reportedly testing its voice-based chat rooms feature ‘Spaces’ with select Android users. The feature is expected to be available for all users in March, a Twitter spokesperson said.

Twitter Spaces is very similar to the Clubhouse app which became quite popular during the pandemic and following Elon Musk’s chat with Robinhood CEO on the platform. Currently, the app is invite only and available on the iOS platform.

As the app has managed to capture great attention in such a short amount of time, tech giants are also working on similar products to get a piece of the cake. Last month, two people familiar with the matter said that Facebook is building  a Clubhouse-like voice chat app

Twitter, on the other hand, announced its Spaces feature back in December. But, just like Clubhouse, the feature was available only in iOS since then.

However, some select Android users in Twitter’s Beta program have reportedly gained access to the voice-chat feature.

Last week, a Twitter spokesperson replied to a tweet of a user who complained about Spaces is still not available on Android, and said that the company is working on the feature for Android and it is expected to be available in March.

In November 2020, the company also rolled out its Stories feature called Fleets.
