Rockstar Games expands global presence with Video Games Deluxe acquisition

Rockstar Games announced the acquisition of Sydney-based development studio Video Games Deluxe, integrating the team into its global operations under the new name Rockstar Australia. The move strengthens Rockstar’s in-house capabilities and formalizes a long-standing collaboration between the two companies.

Video Games Deluxe has previously contributed to several Rockstar projects, including the 2017 re-releases of L.A. Noire and its VR adaptation, L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files. More recently, the studio played a role in upgrading Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for iOS, Android, Netflix, and modern gaming platforms.

“After working together closely over many years, we are excited to have Video Games Deluxe join the team as Rockstar Australia,” said Jennifer Kolbe, Rockstar Games’ Head of Publishing.

The connection between Rockstar Games and Video Games Deluxe dates back to the founding of Team Bondi, the studio behind L.A. Noire. Team Bondi, led by Brendan McNamara, developed the crime thriller before dissolving in 2011, after which McNamara established Video Games Deluxe. The company has since continued to work with Rockstar on multiple projects.

“It’s been an honor to collaborate with Rockstar Games over the past decade,” McNamara stated. “We are thrilled to officially become part of the Rockstar family and look forward to contributing to future projects.”

Rockstar Games has built a reputation for immersive open-world experiences, with the Grand Theft Auto series standing as one of the most successful franchises in gaming history, boasting over 440 million units sold worldwide. The company’s portfolio also includes Red Dead Redemption, Max Payne, Midnight Club, The Warriors, and L.A. Noire.

Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., Rockstar’s parent company, remains a dominant force in interactive entertainment. Operating under labels such as Rockstar Games, 2K, and Zynga, Take-Two develops and distributes games across consoles, PCs, and mobile platforms.
