Microsoft set to launch mobile game sales in Xbox app on Android this November

Microsoft is expanding its footprint in mobile gaming by introducing the sale of mobile games directly through its Xbox App on Android devices. The move, announced by Xbox President Sarah Bond, marks a significant step for the company as it seeks to bring its gaming ecosystem to mobile users in a more integrated way. Starting in November, Android players will be able to purchase and play games directly within the app, though specific titles have yet to be revealed.

Bond’s announcement has stirred excitement among mobile gaming enthusiasts, though details remain scarce. The launch comes amid speculation that Microsoft’s mobile gaming ambitions are tied to larger efforts, including a potential dedicated mobile app store. Earlier this year, Microsoft hinted at developing its own mobile marketplace, with Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft Gaming, discussing plans to collaborate with unnamed partners to build the store. While it’s not yet clear if the Xbox App will merge with this separate marketplace, the introduction of game sales on the app aligns with Microsoft’s ongoing push to offer a more diverse gaming experience across platforms.

The timing of this development follows a recent U.S. court ruling that opened the Google Play Store to competition from third-party app stores. Bond referenced this ruling in her announcement, suggesting that it played a role in Microsoft’s decision to expand the capabilities of its Xbox App.
