Mobile app development company Hedgehog Lab announced that it has acquired UK-based web and mobile software development firm Netsells in a £6.3 million ($7.8M) investment deal with Business Growth Fund (BGF).

Founded in 2007 by Mark Forster and Sarat Pediredla, Hedgehog Lab offers digital product consultancy solutions to web and mobile app developers. Netsells, on the other hand, has been active in the field for more than 10 years, and worked with various well known brands so far, including Uber, Warburtons, Hiscox, NHS.

The combined companies, which will continue operating as Hedgehog Lab, ‘’will create a powerhouse agency in the north of England’’, the company said in its announcement post.

Commenting on the acquisition and the investment, Hedgehog Lab chief executive officer and co-founder Sarat Pediredla said: “The acquisition of Netsells is a major milestone for us as a company. It signifies just how committed we are to our growth strategy. Combining two firms with established and renowned capabilities will enhance growth prospects massively. It eliminates circumstances in which both our companies often competed for identical projects, and brings together some of the best talent in the industry.

Ed Marshall, who recently joined Hedgehog Lab as CTO, said: ‘’The convergence of cloud and app development through the merging of our companies will enable us to build more powerful and innovative applications than ever before. By leveraging the flexibility and scalability of the cloud, we can push the boundaries of what’s possible in app development, bringing new value and experiences to our customers of now and the future.
