Apple has taken a decisive step in enforcing new regulatory requirements within the European Union by removing apps that have not provided required trader contact information. This move aligns with recent EU directives aimed at increasing transparency and accountability among digital merchants operating within the region.
As part of the Digital Services Act (DSA), the European Union now mandates that all digital marketplaces display verified contact details for merchants distributing apps. In response, Apple had previously informed developers of their obligation to disclose their trader status and provide corresponding contact information. With the deadline now past, apps that failed to meet these criteria have been delisted from the EU App Store, preventing new downloads within the region.
The updated policy applies to any developer generating revenue through the App Store, whether from direct sales, in-app purchases, or advertising. Developers offering completely free applications without monetization, such as ads or subscriptions, are exempt from this requirement. Individual developers must disclose their physical address or P.O. Box, phone number, and email, whereas organizations are required to list only their phone number and email. This information is now prominently displayed on each app’s listing in the EU App Store.
