Users in Russia will not be able to buy apps and games using Google Play in the coming days

Google yesterday informed Android developers that it will be pausing Google Play’s billing system for users in Russia in the coming days.

This means users will not be able to purchase apps and games, make subscription payments or conduct any in-app purchases of digital goods using Google Play in Russia. The user attempting to do any of these will see an error message and the transaction will not be processed.

However, the company said that users in Russia can continue to download free apps and games from Google Play and can still access the games and apps they have already downloaded or purchased.

Developers in Russia can also continue to publish new apps or update existing apps during this pause.

The company also said subscriptions will continue until the end of the then-current billing period, but will not be able to be renewed and will be canceled. “We will honor existing developer subscription billing grace periods and any free trials will continue to work until a payment is attempted,” Google said.
