As we approach the end of 2021, Valve has started publishing the best lists of the Steam platform, presenting the best sellers of the year, the most played games and more. Valve’s data reveals that ten-year-old games sell more than newly released titles. Valve’s end-of-year list is progressing in a random order. For this reason, it is unclear which of the categorized games is the best-selling compared to the next one.

According to Valve, 2021 has been a good year in terms of new released games, both in the platinum category and overall charted games. While six games entered the platinum category this year (New World, Valheim, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, Apex Legends, Battlefield™ 2042 and Dead by Daylight), more than a third of the list consisted of games that made it to the “Best Sellers” list for the first time.
Most of the new entrants to the list are new games coming out in 2021, but a few older games have also made it to the top 100. Some of the bestsellers of the past years are still successful on Steam. Dota 2, CS:GO and Grand Theft Auto V remained in the platinum category for six consecutive years. PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege debuted in the platinum category for the fourth time. Destiny 2, on the other hand, has been in the platinum category for three years since its release in 2019 on Steam.
