YouTube unveils premium mobile app features for all users

In a significant development, YouTube announced it has decided to democratize its innovative mobile app features, making them accessible to all users, regardless of their subscription status. Previously, these experimental features were reserved for Premium subscribers, but YouTube is now opening up exciting functionalities to the wider user base.

YouTube has introduced a more convenient way to control your video’s playback speed. Instead of being limited to the right half of the video player, you can now simply press and hold anywhere on the player. This change makes it easier to switch to 2x speed and release at the precise moment you wish.

One of the most common nuisances in video playback is unexpected volume changes. With YouTube’s new stable volume feature, the platform ensures that you can enjoy your videos without the sudden jarring shifts in audio levels. This feature is enabled by default, but you can fine-tune it according to your preferences.

You may have experienced a situation where a tune was stuck in your head, but you couldn’t quite recall the title. YouTube now incorporates an AI-powered voice recognition feature that can identify a song when you hum, sing, or play a melody into the app.

YouTube is focused on making your browsing experience even more delightful. The addition of more extensive preview thumbnails allows you to get a better glimpse of what you’re about to watch. Furthermore, a lock feature for the video player ensures that accidental taps and swipes don’t disrupt your viewing experience.

In a move to simplify user navigation, YouTube has merged the Library tab and account page into a new “You” tab. Here, you’ll find your previously watched videos, playlists, downloads, and purchases, alongside your account settings and channel information. This streamlined arrangement aims to offer a more intuitive experience.

If you’re a smart TV user, YouTube has something special for you as well. A vertical menu now appears when you click on a video title, giving you easy access to video details, comments, subscribe buttons, and video chapters. Web and mobile users are included, as YouTube is rolling out similar improvements such as a scrollable description section.

YouTube is dedicated to enhancing the user experience on its platform. During the recent “Made on YouTube” event, the company introduced “YouTube Create,” a free video editing application aimed at simplifying and streamlining video production for creators, whether it’s for Shorts or longer content. Additionally, YouTube has disclosed ongoing efforts to refine its advertising approach on smart TVs, extending to applications on connected devices like gaming consoles and Apple TV. As part of this initiative, YouTube is testing the concept of fewer, albeit longer, ad breaks on these devices, collectively referred to as Connected TV (CTV). These developments are in line with YouTube’s commitment to providing a more user-friendly and engaging platform.
