Supercell has made an additional investment of $37 million in Space Ape Games, UK-based game developer behind the popular title Beatstar.

In 2017, the Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars maker invested $56.6 million in Space Ape Games, gaining a 62.6% stake in the developer. The new investment, which also includes a $50 million line of credit to Space Age Games, brings its total stake to 75% and total debt & equity investment to $189 million, as reported by VentureBeat.

The reasoning is first and foremost the success of Beatstar game, as we spent years working on, learning and mastering a category of music games,” said Space Ape Games’ CEO John Earner. “We have had success in that category and promise that we can continue to improve in that category. Through the game, we’re working on extensions for the future. It’s really compelling to us and to Supercell.”

First released in September 2020 and launched globally in August 2021, Space Ape Games’ Beatstar – Touch Your Music has been downloaded by 30 million users and hit $60 million in revenue so far. Recently, Black Eyed Peas, Shakira and David Guetta’s new song ‘Don’t You Worry’ made its debut in the popular game 2 days before its global release on streaming platforms.

We couldn’t be more impressed with Space Ape’s team, their culture and their ability to make innovative and incredibly fun games like Beatstar,” said Jaako Harlas, Investments Lead at Supercell.

The news comes weeks after Supercell acquired a majority stake in Trailmix, the developer of mobile game Love & Pies.
