Snowflake acquires data clean room maker Samooha

Snowflake, a leading data cloud company, has announced the acquisition of Samooha, a startup specializing in developing “data clean room” technology, offering businesses a secure platform for sharing and collaborating on their first-party data as well as data from their partners.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. 

Samooha was founded in 2022 based in Los Santos by Kamakshi Sivaramakrishnan and Abhishek Bhowmick.

“Building a data clean room from the ground up can be challenging and require technical expertise and significant investment. By prioritizing ease of use, Samooha dramatically speeds up data clean room set-up and reduces complexity, making the decision to use data clean rooms an easy one. And because Samooha runs directly in the Data Cloud, Samooha leverages the built-in security and governance capabilities of Snowflake, which ensures that customer data is secure and governed,” said in a blog post announcing the acquisition. 

This marks Snowflake’s eighth acquisition in 2023 to strengthen its product offerings. The anticipated closure of this deal by the end of the month, contingent on meeting customary closing conditions, marks a significant move for Snowflake. This strategic acquisition grants Snowflake access to an established “data clean room” platform, enabling secure data sharing, collaboration, and insights for businesses and their partners, regardless of the underlying data stack. In return, Samooha will receive an undisclosed sum in cash and/or stock, along with the invaluable support of Snowflake’s extensive technical and engineering infrastructure.

Businesses and enterprises like healthcare providers, financial institutions, and large media platforms can now create strong edges of value exchange and connectivity across their respective partner and customer ecosystem,” founders wrote in a joint blog post.

All 19 employees of Samooha, including CEO Kamakshi Sivaramakrishnan and and CTO Abhishek Bhowmick, will join Snowflake after the deal.
