Skybound Entertainment has acquired mobile app publisher Maple Media from Shamrock Capital, a move that integrates a diverse portfolio of digital applications into its expanding ecosystem. The acquisition grants Skybound access to Maple Media’s extensive catalog of apps spanning productivity, entertainment, and lifestyle categories, which have collectively amassed over 600 million downloads.
The deal strengthens Skybound’s direct-to-consumer strategy by incorporating Maple Media’s recurring revenue streams, proprietary app management technology, and user engagement infrastructure. The integration is expected to enhance Skybound’s ability to distribute content, leveraging Maple Media’s established presence in the mobile sector to reach audiences beyond traditional entertainment platforms.
Maple Media’s operational expertise in mobile app development and optimization aligns with Skybound’s broader mission to expand its intellectual properties across multiple formats. By bringing Maple Media’s team and technology into its fold, Skybound aims to bolster its presence in mobile entertainment while exploring new monetization avenues. The deal also underscores a growing trend of media companies investing in app-based ecosystems to diversify their revenue models.
Skybound CEO David Alpert emphasized the acquisition’s role in strengthening the company’s audience engagement. “With Maple Media, we can directly connect our intellectual properties with users in innovative ways,” Alpert stated. “Their team brings valuable expertise, and we look forward to working with Michael Ritter, David Bos, and the entire Maple Media group to build on these opportunities.”
Michael Ritter, CEO and Founder of Maple Media, highlighted the potential for content expansion. “Joining Skybound presents new possibilities for integrating their iconic franchises into the mobile space,” Ritter said. “This partnership allows us to scale our operations while developing engaging new experiences for users worldwide.”
