Monopoly Go! surpasses $3 billion in revenue, leads Hasbro’s licensing portfolio

Monopoly Go!, the popular free-to-play mobile game developed by Scopely, has reached a remarkable milestone, surpassing $3 billion in revenue since its launch. This achievement has significantly boosted Hasbro’s financial performance, making it the leading licensor of video games over the past year.

According to Hasbro’s second quarter 2024 financial report, Monopoly Go!, which accumulated $2 billion in revenue as of March 2024, has been a standout performer, driving a substantial 20% year-over-year revenue growth for the company. This surge in revenue is attributed to the game’s immense popularity and effective digital licensing strategies.

“Licensing was another standout in the quarter. Momentum in Monopoly Go! from our partners at Scopely continued in Q2, accelerating our revenue recognition beyond the minimum guarantees and driving healthy upside to both revenue and operating profit,” said Chris Cocks, Hasbro’s CEO. He also highlighted the company’s active pipeline of licensing opportunities across various platforms, including PC, console, mobile, and casino, leveraging Hasbro’s extensive intellectual property.

Hasbro’s CFO, Gina Goetter, shared that several titles outperformed expectations, with Monopoly Go! leading the charge. The game has not only exceeded revenue forecasts but also contributed significantly to the company’s overall financial health. Hasbro anticipates that Monopoly Go! will generate approximately $105 million in revenue for the full year, assuming a modest monthly revenue decline and consistent marketing support.

This success story is further bolstered by the recent collaboration between Scopely and Hasbro to launch a new board game based on Monopoly Go!, expanding the game’s reach beyond digital platforms. This strategic move is expected to enhance the game’s brand presence and drive further engagement among fans.
