Mobile app engagement platform ContextSDK secures $4 million in seed funding

Mobile app engagement platform ContextSDK has announced that it has raised $4 million in a seed funding round. Led by Speedinvest, one of Europe’s top venture capital firms, the round also saw participation from First Momentum Ventures and Heracles Capital. ContextSDK is set to utilize this funding to scale its platform, process over 40 billion mobile events, and launch in the U.S. market by 2025.

As mobile apps are used across varying situations, from commutes to quiet reading sessions, most apps still function uniformly, leading to missed opportunities for personalization. This gap in user engagement has led to staggering attrition rates, with 77% of users abandoning apps within the first three days and 95% dropping off by the three-month mark. ContextSDK aims to bridge this gap by leveraging over 200 physical signals from smartphones to provide real-world contextual data that allows apps to adapt their functionality to the user’s environment in real time.

Powered by machine learning algorithms executed directly on the user’s device, known as Edge AI, ContextSDK ensures that no personally identifiable information (PII) is collected, offering a seamless balance between personalization and privacy. This technology enables CMOs and product teams to tailor user experiences, push notifications, and in-app messaging to each user’s specific situation, enhancing engagement and retention without compromising user trust.

Dieter Rappold, CEO and co-founder of ContextSDK, emphasizes the transformative potential of Edge AI, stating, “The largest apps have traditionally optimized their operations on the server side. By integrating Edge AI into the equation, we enable better app experiences, improved user retention, and, ultimately, increased monetization.”

The company’s core offering consists of three products: Context Insights, Context Decision, and Context Push. Each product tackles a different aspect of mobile app interaction, from analytics to personalized messaging and decision-making, allowing brands to tailor the entire user journey dynamically. Felix Krause, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, highlights the forward-thinking nature of ContextSDK’s mission: “We believe the future of mobile apps lies in their ability to adapt to users’ real-world contexts. We’re setting a new standard in app engagement, delivering experiences users love through contextual adaptation.”

The company has already processed over 10 billion events to refine its machine-learning models and plans to reach 40 billion events by 2025 as it prepares to launch its SaaS platform in the U.S.
