Krafton brings PUBG Mobile back to India under the brand name ‘Battlegrounds Mobile India’

PUBG Mobile developer Krafton announced on Thursday that it is bringing the popular battle royale title back to India under the brand name ‘Battlegrounds Mobile India’. Back in November, PUBG Corporation had announced that it will return to India in a new avatar.

The exact release date of the rebranded PUBG Mobile was not announced but Krafton said it will open pre-registrations “soon” before the launch in India. The South Korean video game developer also said it will collaborate with partners to build an esports ecosystem while bringing in-game content regularly, starting with a series of India specific in-game events at launch.

PUBG Mobile had been banned in India alongside 200 other apps in September due to “being engaged in activities which [are] prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order.” On October 30, Tencent announced that it officially shut down all services and access to PUBG MOBILE Nordic Map: Livik and PUBG MOBILE Lite in India.

India was the biggest market of PUBG Mobile with more than 175 million downloads.
