Amber acquires Colombian game studio Madbricks

Amber, the Bucharest-based video game development agency, has announced the acquisition of Colombian studio Madbricks. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition is a significant part of Amber’s broader strategy to create a global network of development studios, with a particular emphasis on emerging markets.

Madbricks, located in Bogotá, Colombia, has built a reputation over the past decade for its expertise in both co-development and full development across various gaming genres and platforms. With a team of approximately 40 professionals, Madbricks has successfully delivered games on mobile, PC, and console platforms, establishing itself as a prominent player in the South American gaming industry.

The decision to acquire Madbricks follows a successful history of collaboration between the two companies. Amber and Madbricks have previously worked together on several projects, achieving notable results. Mihai Pohonțu, CEO of Amber, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting the synergy between the teams. “Our past collaborations with Madbricks showcased their commitment and skill, making this acquisition a natural progression. Our focus on emerging markets is integral to our strategy, and Madbricks will enhance our foothold in South America’s vibrant gaming sector,” Pohonțu said.

Miguel Benavides, CEO of Madbricks, welcomed the acquisition as a pivotal development for his studio. “Joining forces with Amber presents an opportunity to engage in larger projects and benefit from Amber’s extensive global resources. We are confident that this partnership will further streamline our production processes and help us achieve our vision for both the company and the broader industry,” Benavides stated.

Founded in 2013, Amber is known for its extensive network of studios, offering a wide range of game development services including full product delivery, co-development, platform conversion, and support. With a workforce exceeding 850 employees and a global talent network of over 3,400 specialists, Amber has collaborated with top gaming companies such as Amazon, King, Disney, and Warner Media. The agency is renowned for developing popular titles like Tetris Beat, Super Spy Ryan, and Formula E: High Voltage, among others.

Amber’s global operations extend beyond its Bucharest headquarters, with offices in locations including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Guadalajara, Bogotá, Montreal, Manila, and Kyiv, reflecting its commitment to fostering a diverse and dynamic gaming development ecosystem.
